Influence of the Tunnel Shape on Shotcrete Lining Stresses

چکیده

Tunnel excavation is frequently carried out in rock masses by the drill and blast method and the final shape of the tunnel boundary can be irregular due to overbreaks. In order to investigate the effects of overbreaks a study of the effect of tunnel boundary irregularity has been carried out. This is done developing a computational tool able to take into account fuzzy variables (i.e., thickness of the beams of the bedded spring approach used for the model). The obtained results show that irregularity effects should be considered when a shotcrete lining is used as the final tunnel lining (for the case where the tunneling procedure does not permit a smooth surface to be obtained). This is crucial to obtain a durable lining. F. Barpi and D. Peila 2

Influence of the Constitutive Model for Shotcrete on the Predicted Structural Behavior of the Shotcrete Shell of a Deep Tunnel

The aim of the present paper is to investigate the influence of the constitutive model for shotcrete on the predicted displacements and stresses in shotcrete shells of deep tunnels. Previously proposed shotcrete models as well as a new extended damage plasticity model for shotcrete are evaluated in the context of 2D finite element simulations of the excavation of a stretch of a deep tunnel by m...

Study of Rock-Lining Interaction for Circular Tunnels Using Finite Element Analysis

Finite element technique is used to model two phases of tunneling process, namely; excavation and rocklining interaction. The excavation phase is responsible for determining the pre-lining rock mass deformations and the reduced in-situ stresses. The interaction phase models the compatibility of the rock-lining system. The deformations and stresses of the rock-lining system and the final rock ma...

Boundary Element Analysis of a Lined Tunnel Problem

The boundary element technique is a practical problem-solving tool and useful in comparison to other currently popular alternatives. In this paper, a circular tunnel of a diameter 3.4 m is to be excavated through a clayey soil and surrounded by concrete lining of a thickness 0.2 m, so the clear internal diameter is 3.0 m. A plane strain analysis is adopted for such problem and the soil is assum...

Non-destructive Approach for Shotcrete Lining Strength Monitoring

INTRODUCTION Shotcrete lining forms an integral part of conventional tunneling and is widely applied for underground excavations. Early strength gain of the shotcrete is a crucial aspect for ground support and safety of operatives. Strength requirements are dependent on various factors such as lining thickness, ground type, excavation size and tunnel depth. The early strength gain is typically ...

Assessment of the Drain Conditions on Variations of the Pore Pressure in Surrounding Soil of the Tunnel

Excess pore pressure under seismic loadings has always been a main concern in geotechnical engineering practices. The phenomenon in soil can cause an effective stress and hence cause the shear strength of the soil to decrease considerably and large deformations to occur in the area. Generally, increases in pore pressure occur in un-drained conditions. If it is formed, its consequences decrease ...
